Hi Folks,

I'm building some kind of a budget/frankenstein MS461. Why, would you ask? Cause I don't want to risk damages on my trusty OEM MS461, so I prefer a low cost machine if I have to let anyone use it. (had an issue with a brother in law busting the rewind starter on my MS261).

It's built around an used crankcase, used coil and used carb, along with AM tank assy, piston + cylinder, recoil starter and oiler, and along with the rest in OEM parts.

In the OEM parts is a MS362/MS261 sprocket cover with captive nuts.

Since there is so much wait on the cylinder gaskets, I decided to make my own ones with gasket material. Am also waiting on both AM (Hyway oiler upgraded with Stihl piston and bolt and Farmertec recoil starter upgraded with a Stihl Elastostart) and OEM (cylinder gasket, Master Control Lever).

While on the wait, I attempted a first start, which has been a failure. MS460 MCL and Walbro HD-50 don't like each other. OEM recoil starter has been used from my full OEM MS461 while waiting on the FT one

By the way, Hyway makes really nice parts! This MS461 is fitted with their P+C kit, along with muffler and oiler. Tank is a Chinese one I had left, and handle bar is OEM (comes from my full OEM MS461, which is about to get a brand new one). Next start attempt will be made once the OEM MS461 MCL will be there

Well. Made a new move on that saw. Manually set the saw on Cold Start, and swaped the coil with my OEM 461. Fired up in some 10 pulls, so coil wasn't faulty as I suspected.
I then set the saw to it's previous condition, and started at first pull!

Here is the kit list.
OEM crankcase assembly (used, came with crankshaft and chain tensioner)
OEM carb
OEM filter base and associate parts
OEM flywheel
OEM coil
OEM sprocket cover (with captive nuts, from MS362)
OEM covers
OEM MCL
OEM clutch assy
Chinese gas tank
Hyway Piston and Cylinder
Hyway muffler
Hyway Oiler (upgraded with OEM HO Piston and Bolt)

Bar will probably be the Cannon Superbar that's fitted on my full OEM MS461, which in turn will receive a brand new Superbar. In fact, all parts that will be new OEM will go in the OEM MS461, which will in turn will swap it's parts.

argh, 20" Cannon Superbars are OOS... Not a problem for this saw, since it's going to get OEM 461's Superbar.

This let me down to two choices.
Wait till January 2022 and get a new 20" for OEM,
Get a longer Superbar for OEM, which also means to get new chains too...

But, since OEM is going to be put in Sleep, best bet would be to wait till 20" Superbars would be back in stock...

Ok, she's up and running! Idles perfectly, and top speed is around 13500 rpm. Actual oiler is a Farmertec. The thing broke when I tried to disassemble it...

Nevermind, the Hyway just showed up and has been upgraded. A standard OEM is due to be here soon, it will be a spare for the OEM saw (and it will be upgraded as well).

Also noticed some kind of a leak. Doesn't come from the cylinder gasket, but apparently from the muffler heat shield. Should I add a gasket between the cylinder and shield?

Well well well...

Was working the clutch hard to replace the worm gear (AM one. Chain kept spinning when releasing throttle, and was harder to move by hand than on my other saws) and noticed a fuel leak. Saw is then now disassembled in the wait of a new OEM tank. Wanted to swap with my OEM's , but decided to not
touch a perfectly running saw...

Saw is up and running. It also inherited the fuel tank of my OEM 461, which in turn received a new one.

Am also wondering about the Hyway top end's longevity. It also inherited the 20" Cannon Superbar, while the OEM saw received a 24" Cannon Superbar
