Hello
I have some grasses and tulips growing directly around a silver maple base. The tree has not been very full for the last few years, and I have read that this may be b/c 20210703_094728.jpgthe garden is affecting surface roots and competing for water. Could this be the case? Would you suggest I remove the grasses?

Pictures of the crown would be helpful.
Are you getting a lot of seeds from the tree?
The ornamental grasses are not a big concern for a mature tree. It's what they are hiding like root collar disorder.

There were quite a bit of seeds the last few seasons.

Here are pics of the crown, as well as a view of the grass from another side (and the same side up close of what I assume may be the top of the root collar?)

Heavy seed years the crown will appear thin. Trees energy is going into seed production, less into the leaf development. Just from the picture I don't see any concerns.
