Gear reduction question

I have a 8 to 1 reduction with gears if I add a snatch block in my line will that turn it into a 16 to 1?

Depends where you put it and where the end is anchored. If you put the block on the line (with the block attached to the load) and then anchor the end of the line back to the pulling point, yes. If you anchor the line end somewhere else the angle at the block is very important. Angles over 60 degrees will actually make it harder to pull the load. If you’re just using the block as a redirect you will lose some of you original 8/1 but probably not a lot.
