I have a STIHL 170 that I use for general work around the yard and never had a problem in 15 years. I was talking to a neighbour about his slabbing off some Grevillea Robusta = Silky Oak and he told me he was going to buy a new mill and a new 880 chainsaw. I asked him what he was doing with his old saw and he said he gave it to his son. His son had a cheap Chinese 95cc Giant brand so they swapped and my neighbour offered the Chinese saw to me and a Alaskan mill and 42inch bar and 2 ripping chains, the saw is free but $100 for the 2 chains. Does anyone know if the saw is going to last long ? The saw runs ok and his son used it for a couple off months.

since it is free, it is a good year of operation ;-) you can always improve something in it
I talked to many Australian saw owners and read about the saw in woodworking forums and heard that parts are very hard to find. I’m worried that I’ll set up the mill and saw and it won’t last the cut. Does anyone know where to get parts for this saw or if it is a knockoff off a old Husky.

These are the best I have without taking the plastic off

Giants is an ebay brand. Do a search for it on ebay and you'll see plenty.
The biggest saw currently available looks like a 92cc and looks pretty similar to yours.

I love the way they called it an "e-start" but the stick on label on the saw says "esatrt"
Should cut the Silky Oak Ok but It will be interesting to see how longs it lasts in aussie hardwoods.

I'm about 4 months into my Chinese Clone on a mill. No problems other than the ones you will find on Google, the clutch and the pull rope. Idk about your size but look on Hollzforma or FarmerTech websight for parts.

Yes that is the same machine, 92 cc but I’ve heard the 92cc is somewhere in the 70+ cc range. Not really 92cc. The 42inch bar is a Husky bar so I guess the saw is a husky clone. I’ll ask Johno and Jono chainsaw supplies if they know anything about the saw. I would like to put better parts on this saw and see what it can do

One of the guys that hangs out on the scrounging forum rebuilds and ports them. Puts them back together with as many OEM parts as he can. Said they run great. I'm pretty sure he said he had a local tree service buying them from him and they were holding up. I know he has been milling with them. He was building them a few years back when all the bad stuff about them was going around. I think he did the first one to see what the kit was like, and then was impressed.

You Use it almost everyday and post a reply in 1 1/2 yrs to list it as a parts saw!

If I was in that business and did that all day long....would it hold up, idk and won`t know because I`m not in that business! I didnt buy it for that, just for my use around the house. I couldn`t justify a $2k saw for my needs and as the OP a "gift" for around the yard use..... they seem fine for that!
