I picked up a dirty 028 super locally. I have taken the covers off of it and I’m in the process of cleaning it up and identifying which parts need to be replaced. While I was using compressed air to clean it, I had this nylon piece fall off the powerhead. I thought it was part of the tensioner, but I cannot figure out where it belongs. Can anyone help me? It’s the piece zoomed in on the 3rd picture.

You are in bad need of a new sprocket. Get a new one with your next chain.
That part is interesting, are you sure it is out of the saw? I'll look at the blowup with the chain brake, I seldom work on those.

Yes, I already have a new one for it. Thanks!

Does it fit into the recess where the bar adjuster sits?
It may be a variety of part not in the ipls.
It does fit the recess, but I couldn't orient it in a direction that made sense. OK, I'll take some better pictures and upload them. The saw has been pretty complete, albeit completely filthy and filled with used motor oil.

I went through this with an 028 that came in to the shop where I worked. It goes in the same slot as the adjuster, it does not "fit in a way that makes sense", but it does go there. I wasted ~30 minutes fiddling with the saw, looking through ipl's, and tearing apart other 028's that were in the shop trying to figure out where in the hell that piece went!

Does this area look factory, worn, melted, or what?
Set it in the recess and take some pics, and hold up the chain adjuster to it as well.

Does it fit behind the adjuster and give support? Is the little screw support there as well? Or does it fit over top?
Pics?

No pics, I think it goes behind the adjuster, honestly I don't think it is at all useful so I just stuffed it in the only way it would fit.

OK, I put it behind the bar tensioner pretty much the only way that made sense. It is a nice snug fit in that recessed channel.

I think that’s it. Thank you guys!
