I know exactly how you feel, it's like when we were kids and got a new toy and just couldn't wait to get it home and play with it only to find out that it was broken. Do you think you'll be able to get it going?

Well I'm going to tear it down tomorrow and look closer. I dont have a good feeling about the cyl. Piston could probably be cleaned up. Rings are hard to find.

If I can I will fix it, if not theres alot of good hard to find parts on it, of course there the wrong color to use on the Poulans :)

Why won't these pictures show up, been posting them just like I always did?

Modifiedmark looks like you are only one post away from 1000

Here are your pics. Make sure that you do not have http: listed twice on the address bar when inserting an image in the body of the message. Here is an example of what I mean

It took me awhile to figure this one out. Some of my photos would display and some wouldn't and they were all less then 300 kb

Well, I have been burned on saws on Ebay. Most of the threads I posted about them are long gone from AS. They were yanked after we were plotting to go to the sellers' houses with torches and beat them up and such. Bothr sellers are long gone from Ebay as well, and my 100% Ebay rating has been restored.

I only buy saws that I can personally see, hold, start, and run now. Last 2 saws I bought on CL I would have bought even if they had not turned over. They run like raped apes though, and were well taken care of by loggers. No regrets buying in person. Many regrets buying saws on Ebay. :greenchainsaw:

Yeah I hear ya on the in person thing. Problem with that is how many Dayton 2Z463's did you find on CL this week that you could hold in your hand first?

What? None? Kinda what I thought. I still don't regret the deal as it ended up. Kinda dissapointed maybe at what could have been.

While I think it was a raw deal, if he offered full refund and payment for shipping back, I would hesitate to neg feedback someone. Yes, it would have been an inconveniece, but at least you would have been made whole.

I was sure somebody would object to that--but it's pretty apparent to me the guy was just seeing what he could pass off--his shipping was beyond negligent, and his description was intentionally deceiving--in my estimation.

I realize a chainsaw isn't easy to pack for shipping, and there are things on a saw that are difficult to see until one tears it down and cleans it up. But neither one of these apply in this case. Pretty clear to me the seller was just scamming, and if he gets called on it, he was prepared to take it back.

I've rec'd bad items before but I use 3 magic words that seem to resolve all issues to my complete satisfaction.

"Credit Card Chargeback"

The way you present that, I would say you were more then justified.

The way I remember

And I could be backwards......many times am.

That auto set up was changed out because of where the decomp was activated from.

Or that was the timeline......the manual type was after the "auto"

This 306 was trashed by the thumb throttle lock breaking loose and opening the decomp while running.

I remember accidentally hitting the thumb button on the Daytons and with those loud muffler cans you couldn't hear the decomp very well.

I do belive that your right that the manual type was after the "auto".

BigBores 2Z463B has the manual decomp compared to this 2Z463 with the auto.

I'm thinking the auto decomp models should have had the 1st style "tin" muffler though and probably point ign. The later 245sa and 2Z463b had the manual decomp, electronic ign and last style tin muffler.

I just took this saw apart and I see exactly what you mean as to how the decomp was activated. While on the surface it looks OK I can see where the rod could pop out and release the decomp.

I gotta find a cylinder for sure, as the water set in this long enough that it peeled the chrome plating off of it. The piston looks usable.

Will post a picture of the cylinder later.

Heres the picture of the cyl after I took it apart. I'm really surprised it made 80PSI. You can see where the rings rusted to the cyl and then it just peeled the chrome off when I broke it loose.

Strange how after setting in the Kroil oil all night I just turned the flywheel by hand (and not all that hard) to brake it loose and it done all that damage.

The piston don't look all that bad, a little cleaning and a set of rings should be good there.

Look what I found to day though. A NOS 245SA cylinder, but it's for the manual decomp.

Also found a NOS 24" hard nosed bar.

Anyone got a line on a 245 piston or rings let me know please.

Thanks Chris, that will start me in the right direction.

I found in my service manual that it list the bore at 50.92mm or 2.005" but thanks for listing the 1.5mm thickness.

Looking in the manual I assume you used the 056AVE rings with a 52mm bore?
