Hello,

I really shouldn't be buying any more chainsaws, as I have enough projects laying around already. However, I noticed a McCulloch of on fb marketplace, for cheap, just one picture and not too much info.

I like them old Macs, my dad had one, first saw I ever was allowed to use, back in '94 or sth like that.

This is the pic:

I asked for more info, what model it is, if it starts (apparently, yes), and was sent this:

What model is this? Is it a good one?

Thx in advance.

No one? :)

Should I ask the question in another thread, maybe, or is there a way (website, ...) to find out myself?
Did a quick internet search yesterday, turned up nothing.

That looks like a pro Mac 610 to me. Are there any other ID tags on the saw? Usually there is a big one by the rear handle

It’s a 61cc saw, and if it’s cheap and runs I’d say go for it. If you don’t like it you can clean it up and resell it for more.

6001280 is not on my list so I can't provide a definitive answer on the actual model name. The 600 Series saw are rather heavy, slow, loud, "blockish" in shape, but they do make a pretty dependable firewood saw and I've seen a decent PM650 with a 48" bar in a tree service arsenal. They said it wasn't fast but it was much easier to handle than the McCulloch 840 (large frame top tank gear drive) that they'd been using before it. My local tree service guy has a 28" bar on a late model PM610 (thin ring version) and he says it doesn't slow down.

The thin ring saws seem to perform better, but I suspect they don't run as long and the earlier thick ring versions.

Most parts are still available though you might have to resort to a Little Red Barn piston if you need one.
