Need some info on Dolmar 116/116Si/116 Super

Hey giys. So over the past 2 years I’ve been getting parts and pieces for my Dolar saws. I have a 116 that is complete, a 116Si missing pieces and is for parts for now, and a 116 Super that could run if I had an ignition coil.
I’ve been reading a lot about the supers and how they are a frankensaw using bits and pieces from each the 116 and 116Si. What parts from my parts Si can I use on the Super? So far only the recoil fits. The carb is different and the upper casing cover is different.
On that note, why would the super have a carb with no choke butterfly? I understand those were for the Si only. Some injection type carb? My Si has a standard carb that has a traditional choke one it. Could it be just a 116 with Si stickers? What else makes it an Si?

I own and have run them all, I will follow along with others findings. The only thing I see on the si that is different from the super is the carb, being an injector type but the carbs are easily switched so any old saw may have had the carb switched over during its lifespan.
 
I think after they went to the external coil , There wasn't much difference between "plain" 116/120 and SI. The bore & stroke same as SI or 6000/6800. Crankcase, crank & muffler the same . I have bought several 116/120 with SI carbs, I can't believe everyone had a carb swap ,,,, I wouldn't switch to a flood prone injector carb. I have one with RWJ , Xtorq 372 carb, easy swap but tight on choke link, also I have 2 6800 and one has no ID plate on it & rivet holes show no sign of ever having a rivet in it but had all the stickers. Did the late model saw only have stickers,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Hummmmm
 
I can't answer the OP questions, but I do have 25+ years in with a 116SI. Replaced the coil maybe 209 years ago and had to retighten the cylinder bolts. Other than that it's been a dead reliable saw with no "flood prone" issues at all. I'd pick up another in a heartbeat if I could.
 
So what’s with the 116 Super? I read somewhere it was a mix of 116 and 116si parts. I can’t remember what it said of which parts from what. I’d like to get one or the other running. The Super needs an ignition coil but the Si needs a few other pieces. Would it be better to fix up the Si using the super as a parts bin? I haven’t checked my plain 116 yet to see what parts are similar to the other ones
 
Yes , The early 1985- 86 +/ _ 120 Super, saws had the ign under flywheel. If you look above the starter on top cover it will be flat , where the coil would be on a external coil saw

You hand your 116si to someone how hasn't ran one & walk away come back in 5 minutes ,,,, it will be flooded . Tell me I'm wrong
 
so it turns out my 119 has the internal ign coil and i need to replace it as it has stopped working haha. both my 116 super and si are both external coil. i haven't taken the base 116 apart yet to verify. i might just have to get all 3 116's on the bench and start comparing what parts fit on what and just make 1 or 2 good runners from the 3
 
I know that, you know that, How many people don't know that ,,,, is all I saying , Dolmar injector carb is a easy saw to flood

The 116 Super is actually closer to the 119 than the 116si. The 116 Super and 119 share the same cylinder and piston. Although the 116 Super has an injector style carb it is not the same version as was used on the 116si and 120si. A carb swap on a 116 Super is quite difficult as the choke/start lever linkages won't line up, the air filter and air box covers won't fit properly since the original 116 Super carb is just a wee bit shorter than the carbs of its siblings. The 116 Super uses the same bottom discharge muffler as the 117 and 119 which looks similar to many other S-D models but is actually taller. The 116 Super is a bit rare as it was only produced for a very short time. Sachs-Dolmar published very little documentation for it and you won't find any reference of it in any of the commonly found IPL's. I have a specification table for the 116 Super and an early sales bulletin but that is the most I have found for it.
