new piston in 365

I checked compression on my husky 365 recently and was surprised it was only 100. I put a plug in the decomposition valve and that did not change the compression. It was taking more pulls to start than I thought it should. Seemed odd cuz I put a new caber ring on bout a year ago. When I pulled the cylinder I was expecting to see something to explain the low compression, but to my newbie eye it looked ok. I installed a meteor piston tonight, but won't have a chance to use it for a day or two. Curious what you guys and women think about the the condition of the old piston. Cylinder looked good to me, just minimal carbon tracks

Your old piston looks fine. My guess is that your gauge isn’t reading accurately

The hard starting is more likely due to a stiff diaphragm in the carburetor or a bad fuel line/filter

I think you are right about the diaphragm. However, the shindaiwa 488 I sold recently had almost 170# of compression, so I don't know about the gauge being right or wrong. My 361 tested at bout 135( on sale right now!)

I’m not familiar with the 488, but your gauge could read low. The 488 may have actually had 200 psi and it wouldn’t surprise me if the 365 only had 140

Something doesnt look right with that piston. The crack or dent to the left of the ring locator pin should not be there. It also looks like the ring was not touching the bore in places

Looks like excessive wear on the intake side skirt too... probably pay to give the filtration side of things a once over
