Newbie here…

recently came into an Echo CS-590 for cheap! Under $200! I’ve given it a good once over, minus compression test or break down of the cylinder. I’m a east coast guy, so my biggest wood is old oaks, poplars, and maples. This saw has been a life saver this week with the snowstorm we had and all the trees that came down.

The saw runs good, well balanced, powerful, easy to start. I’m looking for some better performance out of it; as I’ve got 3+ acres. So far the I’ve got the muffler mod figured out, but cannot find any reliable sources for the carb adjustment (limiter caps) or intake work. Keep the explanations simple… I’m a Marine! Lol.

Any tips or advice are appreciated! Looking forward to learning the true in’s and out’s of this saw!

You'll get more responses on the chainsaw forum, but with a quick web search you should find detailed instructions for pulling the limiter caps. Basically, just insert a screw a short way into the orange plastic limiter and pull it straight off. A drywall screw usually works, but you might need to cut a smidge off the sharp tip of the screw first. The limiter tabs may also need to be rotated to a specific position to allow their tabs to clear and pull out. Look at them closely and you'll see. Search videos for "tuning in the wood" or "in the cut" to learn how to tune. Start extra rich (H screw opened ccw) and slowly lean (H screw cw) till it just smooths out when it starts cutting. Make sure you mod the muffler with it off the saw, and clean out any metal shavings before reinstalling.

Some people say , break it in. Some say a MM didn't help. Mine is stock. Bought in 2015. Never touched. Just gas bar oil and use. Maybe it's your chain or just not fully broke in. Also if you are running it high altitude maybe tune the carb. I love my saw. Unlike my X wife it's everything I expected. Bless you

I had a 590 for 3 years that I liked. Eventually I needed/wanted more so I made it turn into a ms462c. It’s lighter and way more powerful, High recommend that mod! @Red97 is the guy you wanna talk to about your 590.

20220131_141430.jpgLimiters on the 590 are about as easy as they come on a modern saw. Make sure there turned fully counterclockwise twist a screw in and pull. They pop right out. I trim the tabs and put them back. Makes it easier to seat a screwdriver while the saw is running.

I went ahead and ordered a coil and carb for a cs 620. Plus a lil muffler mod. Should be a good wood saw.

You will be cutting below the rpm of the limited coil on the 590 unless you are cutting 6 inches of wood or less. Even then, I wouldn't want to be revving the saw past the 13500 RPM limit of the factory 590 coil when cutting. It just makes tuning the carb a little easier, but I always tune my saws in the wood anyway.
