I keep looking at these things cause well I just seem to like working on chainsaws. is this old homelite worth putting effort into? I don't mean worth money but was it a quality saw in its day? 50.00 saw.

and I've always been curious, did Reminton actually manufacture their saws or did someone make them for them? this one is 88cc he says but looks heavy as hell. were they good chainsaws?

Remington did in fact manufacture their own saws, must have been a period with ammunition sales were lagging and they were looking for some additional income.

this thing is so tiny. got it today for 30.00. googled it and it said 1976-1982, 31.1cc, powerhead 7lbs 12oz. anyone know if the Textron homelites were any good?

Relatively easy to work on, but make sure you have the clutch and drum that you want when you put it together because you have to pull the engine from the housing to replace either one.
Many of the early saws had a fixed H jet and some run way too rich. The fully adjustable carburetors from later saws can be used as a replacement.

the fuel tank on this saw is full of what looks like clean 30 or 40 weight oil. this is preferrable to having it sit for years with bad premix but I'm wondering if this was done on purpose to "pickle" it for a long time unused. the woman told me it was running great when her husband bought a new saw and put it up.
there are 3 carb screws, but what's with the empty hole above the screws?
according to this document, the "F" in my serial number denotes 1984 manufacture. so, then I guess these were made beyond 1982.
Chances are that was the demise of the saw. Oil in the gas tank they don’t run long. I’ve got a few like that Clean the fuel system and carb and they run great
