Hi all,

looking to shore-up a healthy, 12-yr old maple tree with what looks like a potential susceptibility to a fatal split (x2, attached). Thinking of installing a 5/8” threaded bolt and threaded (cast-metal) plumbing fitting (x2, attached). Not sure if cabling is preferred - there’s no sign of wind damage yet but it’s exposed to winds during storm events and I’m just being extra cautious.

Diameter?

5/8 is pretty big for that. A washer and nut is enough, no need for the flange.

A tree that small can probably be pruned without need for support system.
I’d say 10-12” DBH. It’s probably 10m ht - just under the primary utility wires at edge of property.
