Hi all!
My sister in law just bought a home and has a problem tree. I’ve attached pics. I believe it’s a Magnolia- could be mistaken

Questions are:
Is it a proper tree for the space? We’re trying to not obscure windows
If it’s appropriate for the space, would 2 pruning sessions be a good idea? Overall it’s width and height will be reduced considerably. The tree is about 15 years old.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts

At the very least, I'd prune a LOT of the lower branches out of there to make it look more like a tree. There is also a lot to pruned away from the house. Very bad planning when it was planted. If she likes the tree and the possibility of pruning it away form the house, I'd work with it...but honestly, in the long-term, probably better replacing it with something planted a little further from the house that fits the space. That is not the first magnolia I've seen too close to a house!

Yeah, I kinda suspected that it wasn’t viable long term. :( Well….. maybe this will be a pruning “practice” tree! Cut it back and in a few years- removal and replacement with something low
