Hard to tell, sometimes the scoring can cause resistance which imitates compression.I'm a pretty strong guy and the starter rope is difficult to pull like it has good compression, maybe it isn't quiet enough.

It pulls over easily with the spark plug removed, if that means anything. Or it could be like you said a little compression results in alot of scoring resistance.Hard to tell, sometimes the scoring can cause resistance which imitates compression.
Maybe the connection at the inside of the boot is loose.I put the new plug in now i'm not getting any spark at all. This saw is a mystery...
If your piston looks like a bar code... it is time for a new top end!Is this too much scoring? I haven't had a chance to buy BPM7A plug yet.

Run a scanner over itIf your piston looks like a bar code... it is time for a new top end!
That’s a good way to describe itIf your piston looks like a bar code... it is time for a new top end!
You need to evaluate the condition of the cylinder before proceeding or else you are just throwing money down the toilet.Fixed the spark issue by cleaning a bunch of mud behind the coil and flywheel. Will replace the piston and rings next. View attachment 928096
