This is a Texas Elm, most often called Cedar Elm locally, but that confuses everyone. It's an Elm tree, Ulmus Crassifolia. It's split at the main fork, and I don't think I can re-attach the fallen half. If I cut off the fallen half and bolt the trunk together with all thread is there a chance this tree will live? It's about 14" at the base and about 40 feet tall. Do these splits ever fuse back together completely? Seems like it would split again if I try to attach the whole thing.
Should I save this split Elm tree?

Thanks, removal it is. I must have a thousand elms on just 10 acres, but I do like keeping the larger ones when possible. They tend to overcrowd and compete for light and water, so I've started thinning out the small ones

Upside is elm is &(_# near impossible to spilt with a maul. You have been given a good headstart
