Stihl 034 -> 036 upgrade

Hello all,

I bought a cheap china 036 (48mm) cilinder (without decrompression valve), piston and gasget and put it on my Stihl 034 from 2000.
Today I got a chance to test it, and to my suprise I got it running.
After heating it up slowly with a bit more oil added to the fuel I tuned the original carb and it starts and runs fine.

Does anybody knows if the Stihl 036 has a different muffler compared to the 034?
Would I get more performance when changing the muffler?

Just enlarge the exit hole in the muffler, that is the only difference as far as performance goes.

If the OEM 034 jug was O.K. you might not get as much performance with the Chi-Com 036.

Agreed with above comment, go back to the 034 Jug. A bigger cylinder doesn’t necessarily equate to more power. If you really want to do it properly, get an OEM used cylinder.
