Stihl 034 rebuild

I had an idea to soak it in hot water to soften it up but unfortunately that ship sailed before the idea hit.

Bic lighter but don't make it mushy.


Don't omit spring insert or hose will kink.

Need some advice on opening up the muffler. I opened up the out portion. Possibly too much. Should I do anything with the inner portion of it or did I open the outer too much and just need to junk it?

Update on progress. The oil line has proved to be my kryptonite. I have burned through 3 kits trying to get it on the oil pump and keep kinking the line or melting it. I decided to go aftermarket on the throttle linkage and that bit me. It does not fit right. Also the package containing the spark plug, fuel filter, and air filter is several days late being delivered. On the plus side I’ve scored my next several projects while letting the 034 kick my butt.

Get a cup of boiling hot water and stick about 1/2 inch of the end of the line in the water grab with needle nose pliers and push on.

We’ll I’m happy to say it’s done. She runs fantastic. The heat gun ended up doing the trick for the oil line. I’m going to pick up a bar and chain for it after work tomorrow and hopefully ride out to the hunting camp this weekend and find a fallen tree to cut up. I think it’s safe to say I’m hooked on saws. It’s much more enjoyable for me than fixing cars at my day job. Huge thanks to all you guys who gave input along the way.
