He wants new everything...
I told him I would see what I could do...

You are going to be very lucky to find "Stihl" new for this old girl and replacement is likely to not be the same quality anyhow.
Aftermarket parts you find might be new- but might be crap.
Tear it down, find out what is worn, broken, missing and repair what you can, reuse what isn't worn out and replace wear items like rings, bearings and seals.

Thanks Bob..
I explained all of that to my pal..

We were looking up parts and came across an ad
for a different machine (TS 420 cut-off saw) that included the crank assy, bearings, seals, AND the engine base
...Short Block... I dunno

He wondered if we could get a kit like that for his 041.
Thats what he wants.

I think I could get away with new crank seals and piston rings to be honest.

Who is your favorite vender these days?.

Yeah, cutoff saws, especially masonry use ones get absolute hell during their short lived lives- they do topends and cranks on a regular basis, much more so that good old solid 041's ever will.
The chances of finding a kit like that for an 041 are slim to zero. Plus it is the lower grade Farmboss model, no AV - you can throw lipstick at a pig...... The old 041 Farmboss is still a good old honest saw, but the 041 AV is a friendlier saw to use.

Freshen it up, make it good and run it. New rubber components and as you say, rings, seals plus possibly main crank bearings while you are in there. Give the carb a good clean and kit it.
If you can find a "kit" it is highly likely to be Asian and much lower quality than the parts that are already on the saw.

My favourite vendor will be no use to you- check my geographic location. ;)

I found crank seals and gaskets at H_L Supply'
Cyl. kits are unavailable..
Went to Bailys. no luck there.

I know I seen em somewhere

New Zealand....
I have shipped stuff to New Zealand and it is pricey...

A Stihl TS 420 will make a broken man out of you..
I seen it.

Its a long way around a piece of 48 inch ductile iron pipe.

Im a retired Wastewater Treatment Plant Worker..
LOL.

Thanks for the help

Honestly, as long as the crank and rod are in good shape and undamaged I can't see a reason to replace them. As others have mentioned you'll be hard-pressed to find anything but salvaged parts in that department anyway. Your buddy may need just need to be brought up to speed on the concept that "newer" isn't always "better". The 041 has enough parts that are difficult to find as it is. That said, new seals and crank bearings are available for the 041. As the other guys pointed out there are after-market cylinder and piston kits out there. But personally, if the cylinder is in good shape and unscared; I'd just go with a piston kit from Hyway (PK000013). I got lucky and managed to keep the OEM cylinders in all three of my 041s. Good luck.

Update on this 041'
I put a new carb, fuel lines, filters on this saw.
Starts right up... runs great till she's good and hot...
Same as before
The guy gave me the saw for my time and trouble.
Said hes gonna go buy a new Stihl electric saw.

@Bj Shock Not sure if I missed it before, but what is it doing when it gets good and hot?
