I’ve just purchased an 064 and it has no flywheel it has a coil but no part number 😔. The saw has been rebuilt and is needing the flywheel to complete . I’ve searched everywhere and even had a few scammers pinching pics of google as there own and wanting money .
I rebuild saws but this one has me stumped as I don’t want to order or buy the wrong one . Couple questions from someone knowledgeable if I can .

1. Is my coil (if appearance can tell) a limited one .

2. What part number flywheel should I hunt for .

3. Has anyone got one I can purchase I’m uk 🇬🇧 based . 07796078550 WhatsApp or message me be great..

I dealt with this recently on an 064 I built. That looks like the universal coil, like the one on my 044. The flywheels to be used with the universal unlimited coil is either the 1122 400 1201 or the 1203. Avoid the 1204 flywheel...I had the 1204 flywheel with an unlimited coil on my build and I had to cut a new keyway to time it properly.

Thanks for quick reply buddy 😎
I don’t have a keyway either any ideas as to which key way I’ll need also :dumb2:

I’ve ordered a keyway now . Struggling to find a flywheel which is probably no surprise 😔.... Can’t be paying close to £100+ on a flywheel will eat way into my margin . . Gutting and frustrating trying to find a used one 😭

Read this to better understand 1122 ignition combinations.

Better yet just bang your head on the wall about 1122 ignition systems 😁

Read somewhere that an 064 can be swapped to a different coil and flywheel not from the 1122 class. The person could not get the flywheel or coil they needed to match up. The guy was somewhere in a jungle like the Amazon or Africa. Probably worse than finding parts in New Zealand. His 064 had nothing but a starter on the flywheel side. Somebody chimed in and said you can use parts from a different model of saw like the 1128 possibly... Idk myself never messed with 064 ignition systems just 066/660's and they are enough of a headache until you find out they had like nine different ignition parts maybe more.
Myself, I'll toss the key and move on. Marking the case is easy enough and the flywheel so they lineup where they need to be not what was ever intended then move on. I mess with many models but few 064's come my way or find their way here.

Anyone know if there could be any truth to this using another model flywheel and possibly the coil or a different coil besides a factory 1122?

Think it may have been the ignition off of an 046 or MS460 that you are thinking about- have heard similar, but never tried it.

Most all the Lida made in Japan STIHL coils I have for 066/064 have the part number on the side close to the date code clock- but I do have one out of a parts box that is unmarked- just don't ask me which it is or what it came out of! If I had to take an uneducated guess I would call it a limited coil, but seeing as how yours is a 1997 saw- maybe unlimited!
Find an IPL for late 1990's 064 and look at what it would have had fitted to get a flywheel part number. Not sure in Jolly Old England- but 064 flywheels are getting hard to find here.
You can time them to run without a flywheel key if the crank nut is done up tight.

well, I can't offer you part numbers, but if memory serves there was at least 3 different flywheels for these, ALL OF THEM had issues with losing magnetic power (degousing?).

Best of luck to ya, the coils are a PITA too.

That saw's case has the mounting holes for both the early and later 064 coils.

Your coil looks a lot like the Bosch coil on my early 064 that uses the early saw mounting points. Some of these had the three mounting holes "dogleg" coils. Mine is an early case and only uses the two holes as yours does. Mine is an unlimited coil that uses the 1201 flywheel.

The early 046 "dogleg" coils have been used on the early mount 064 cases. Member here Wigglesworth did that one.

I never knew they had problems...
I have one that is my "go to" saw, ended up with a 066 tank and air filter. Frankensaw runs strong.

I have another one that is pretty close to stock, but wrong handle on it... 066 is a little wider.

Well worth the bother to get it sorted and running.

I may have the flywheel you need but posting part numbers is not going to help me to locate it in my totes. I need the actual number that is stamped on the flywheel. Stihl uses a different part number in the IPL then they stamp on the part.

Well still no further in finding one and total head **** with so many different bits of advice 😫 Shame to sell the saw after all the work put in . But think I’m going to risk the 1124001201 coil which seems the direction most positive.

What a headache 🤕

Is this what you're looking for? Need a brand new Stihl piston/cylinder/wristpin and bearing/base gasket/exhaust gasket? I've got those too. Holy cow! I need to dig around in the bone yard more often!
