Talked to an old man tonight that has a 440 Magnum saw he bought new back years ago.....he couldnt remember. Said it had maybe 10 hrs on it. Looks absolutely new. Has original 20" bar that looks new and a 30" bar that looks new. Couple chains for each, scrench, manual, etc. He said its lived in climate control storage its whole life. Decided to sell it now just too much saw. He said it ran last time it was used.....couple 2 or 4 yrs ago and that he was sure it was stored empty of fluids. Hasnt tried to crank it and wants to sell.it. Whats a fair offer on it?

Thats what he thought....$500. I was thinking $400....he said well Im gona try to get it to crank tomorrow and will call you back.

If you need it, that is the deal you don't want to get away from you, provided it doesn't need major maintnence. If i came accross that deal i would buy it even though i don't need it.
Only maintenance I could see it needing would be carb cleaning/kit. Fuel and/or impulse line. Always a risk of rubber lines and crank seals when they set. But I agree. I dont 100% need it but for the price I could need it....lol

Im gona try and do the deal tomorrow. Hopefully before someone calls him and tells him its worth $1500 on eBay.
Tough to tell without pics but 500 is fair deal no haggle, I wouldnt even want him to try and start it, I'd rather go thru it myself, make sure it's not running lean and scored and pull rope has compression

So went and looked at the saw today. He said he couldnt even pull it. I pulled muffler first and took a peak. BRAND NEW! Went to pull it and she has dang sure got some compression. Pulled it about 5 times and she popped. Ran like new. Idles like new. Looks like new. Comes with 20" and 30" bars that look new. A carbide chain in the 20" and two regular Stihl chains. The 30" bar had an Oregon chain. Handed him $500 and shook his hand.

Any saw you pick up, regardless of how ‘mint’ it looks will have some little glitch to figure out and fix.…otherwise it wouldn’t be for sale…
That’s half the fun in my book.😁
This one was only for sale because the 84 year old owner couldnt pull it. I figured out the has pedal thing. Ill dig into it tomorrow. Something unclipped or popped out of joint. Gotta find some big dawgs and maybe west coast big clutch cover.
