I have a bunch of older stihls.

The IPLs list various fuel filters: part #s 000 350 XXXX

Is there pickups that will substitute and/or are "better" to have a stock of spare filters? Better as in more durable filter material.

I have to play with some saws fuel systems soon and would be nice to have spares in hand.

e.g. one(s) that would work for several models of saws. Sort of "universal" filter(s) for several models.

I have:

009
020
026
028
036
038
064
056
066

I guess usually there are only two type: the older large tipped 3 piece ones or the smaller barbed tip. It was the first question I was asked when I ordered some a few weeks ago.

I did some digging in my IPLs.

Seems most are 0000 350 3500 or 0000 350 3504. Was surprised that one is for a 028 (3500) and the other fits 038 (3504).

Anyone know the difference, and can they be swapped without problems?

Local dealer prices are pretty proud on both , $10.50 each :dizzy:

Are they gouging me on prices?

Walbro felt filters....much nicer quality IMO.

I went to walbro site and those filters do seem high quality and ethanol proof.

But no info on sizing and application for chainsaws.

EDIT: found a listing part # 125-528, states up to 80cc saws, no mention of barb size.

100% ethanol proof , felt and stainless filters, steel body, looks to be cleanable

Anybody used these? ~ $4.50 + shipping

3504 “large style” $7.99

My parts guy mentioned something about the part # changing, but that’s what was on the receipt from last week.

The main difference between the Stihl filters is hose barb size (big, small) and the physical size of the filter itself. All of the newer ones use a fine mesh screen followed by a sintered plastic? element. It used to be that you could buy just the sintered element but not any more.

The Walbro filters are good filters, perhaps too good! At one time Stihl used Walbro filters as OEM and then stopped for some reason. My speculation is that the felt can clog up slowly without showing any obvious signs until it results in fuel starvation and burnt up motors. The existing Stihl filters are less likely to catch real fine stuff (which will go all the way through the carb anyway) but also less likely to slowly clog and result in fuel starvation.

009: 0000 350 3502
020: (if series 1114): 0000 350 3500 availible while stock lasts, replaced by 0000 350 3522
020: (if series 1129): 0000 350 3518
026: 0000 350 3518
028: 0000 350 3500 or 0000 350 3522
036: 0000 350 3518
038: 0000 350 3518
064: 000 350 3518
056: 0000 350 3500 or 0000 350 3522
066: 0000 350 3518

I replace most of the Stihl ones with Walbro filters compensating for differences in barb size using a short piece of fuel line over the barb to serve as an adapter (Stihl fuel lines have a larger diameter on the filter end)... With the Walbro filters you can easily see and feel the filter condition without any disassembly.

Stihl lookalike AM filters sometimes do not let any fuel pass through even when new and tend to clog due to a major meltdown of internals.

Troof. Solo, Shindaiwa & Echo pro gear often come with Walbro's. Put one in your hand next to a OEM Stihl filter & the choice becomes easy.

If you are upsizing the filter barb, you have just introduced a flow restriction. If your saw can demand more fuel than the filter barb allows you may start running into problems.

I am not upsizing the filter barb, just matching its outer diameter with the larger inner diameter of the Stihl hose to facilitate a secure connection. The line diameter itself is the same as the inner diameter of the barb on the Walbro filter.

Stihl parts (or better anything Stihl) are extremely expensive over here and the next dealer is 2 h away. For my own saws I use cheap (and fast) options wherever possible - probably have too many of them.

Have you seen the 0000 350 3522 yet. They are putting them in the MS201TCM's now. I haven't depleted the old number yet.
Is it the new material (orange) which is finer for the Mtronics?
