STIHL MS 181 no spark

My saw was sparking fine then i came back the next day and i'm not getting any spark. I haven't even started the saw. I tried disconnecting the switch from the module and setting the air gap with a business card to no avail. Is there something else i should look for and do modules just stop working like that? I've tried a different plug.

dodgy lead/cap maybe ? are you testing in darkness ?

These newer coils have a pretty faint spark, and spinning the flywheel with a drill isn't fast enough, so you need to put the starter back on. Test in a dark room.

I'm testing in a dark shed and with the starter on. Nothing.

Are you grounding the side of the plug? Hard to do with these newer plastic saws.

Yeah grounding the side against the cylinder fins. I might check later to see if there's any mud causing an issue at the coil.

Well it was the spark plug boot, it only seems to fire at certain angles.

It sounds like the spring might have pulled loose inside the boot.
