Stripped Spark Plug Thread AH81 = Recommendations?

Hello guys, I had been looking at this DB 81 and I just picked it up. The spark plug threads are stripped. What do you all recommend to repair this, Helicoil? Threads are almost completely gone, they don’t appear to be salvageable.

It‘s also missing a couple cylinder nuts That I’ll have to replace.

But, it has spark and the recoil works. I removed the recoil, it is a little slow but it works. Just appears to have built up dirt and grime. Any suggestions on cleaning the recoil with out taking it apart as far as removing the inner mechanism?

The pull cord is quite oily/greasy. Thinking I can pull it out as far as possible and wash it with kitchen soap, the kind that degreases to help it loosen up some.

helicoil kit the plug threads, recoils can get really nasty inside and the springs can get rusty. I like the hobart parts washer brush in a sink or tub with dawn/water to remove the bulk of the dust/oil then submerge and pull the cord to get it into the recoil spring to flush the trash out then let it drip dry and spray wd-40 into it to fully dry it out. you must follow up with real lube after the wd-40! I prefer dry lubes to not attract and hold dirt. Diesel is also a great parts cleaner.

Thank you for that info. I’ll post pics of both the recoils. One recoil I have the spring no longer works and the cord is almost white from what I remember. The other one that does work, it’s like the cord was smeared with grease, but it works. The one that doesn’t work I have to take it apart and see what’s going on with the spring. Maybe it’s broken.
