Hey all!
We enjoy a Japanese maple in our front yard. I recently saw the holes and sap gushing as detailed in the pictures. Found teams of carpenter ants in its main crotch a couple years back. Got rid of the ants. I know a woodpecker has been having a field day with the tree as evidenced by the D shaped holes throughout. I was all through the thing a few days ago with the kids and it is sturdy. I’m just wondering if it’s days are very limited due to the damage in the pictures?
Thank you

not sure how maple is, but ive got a sweetgum with probably 10x the holes in it (woody back at it again), and its going great, im not an expert but id say, hang some pie pans in the tree, or an old garden hose (imitates a snake) to scare off the bird, if that doesnt work grab the .22 and give er

the tree should survive (again, not an expert opinion, just personal experience)
