I am a residential landscape tech, not an arborist. I have taken over a site with these maples (I think they're A. rubrum). I don't know the history of them but I noticed there is some pretty significant verticle streaking that looks like it is coming from cut branches. It does not look right at all to me. What is going on and is there anything that can be done about it? My company has had the site contract for a long time so I fear it may have been previous crews or an arborist outfit. If it is bad practice, which it seems to be, I want to do something about it. Thanks if you can help. 95B01AA9-822B-4A25-B4EF-772C84B206AC.jpeg 67BAEA31-C638-4E04-8CA0-0FFA292B8E00.jpeg842C298F-01BC-4D8B-8AA1-DFC0D29F397F.jpegCC1F764A-650C-4450-81B0-A39AA7B78F05.jpeg

maybe vertical cracks in trees caused by alternating freezing and thawing temperatures. When the bark alternately contracts with freezing temperatures and expands on warm days, a crack is likely to occur. A tree with a crack is in no immediate danger and may live for several years.
