Here we go again! Since everyone is so helpful here, I have another backyard tree that I’d just love to know the species. Located in Maryland. I don’t remember ever seeing any seeds or nuts from it. Thanks all!!

That bark looks pretty tight to be Pignut (C. glabra) - but it is young, so could be. My first thought was Bitternut hickory (C. cordiformis). A clearer picture of the buds would certainly solve this one.

I’m just happy to know hickory;) So the buds are distinctive - got it!
 
Bitternut hickory buds are "naked" - there are no scales covering them. They will be mustard colored. Pignut hickory will be larger and green or brown.
