used wrong gasket maker, how long will it last ?

Just realized i used a non gas resistant gasket maker to seal a chainsaw cylinder.
The saw is back together and running now, how many hours of runtime will it last before i need to redo the job with the right gasket maker ?
just trying to get an idea of how quick it will break down as i have no idea...

Probably a good while but there is no way to put a specific time on it.

Yep, depending on what was used and how good the mating surfaces were to begin with.

I used Permatex #51850 Anaerobic Gasket maker.... non gas resistant

But i did prepare the mating surfaces perfectly

Dirko HT is not fuel resistant and Stihl uses it to seal the cylinder to the crankcase.

Otherwise known as “518”. It works fine and is used by many.

If you are really worried, you may want to consider R&R (remove & reinstall). Nothing MAY go wrong...however, if that base gasket leaks, bad ju-ju happens. FWIW Three Bond 1184 is good stuff.

It's marketed as solvent resistant. Better than any silicone sealant that many use.

If you used a gasket you're probably fine for the duration.
Sealing metal to metal it's always best to have something in there to seal things up, even though in theory two perfectly machined surfaces should seal up fine......but it is NOT a perfect World out there.......

It will last forever, only the inside edge of the joint is exposed to a fuel mist, it will not penetrate into the joint itself.

Somewhere between 1 second and "forever." My hunch is that it will last longer than the saw.
