My dad had an old jonsered 490 when I was growing up. I would like to restore it. My chainsaw buddy says you can do it. It ran up until 2002 then my dad bought a ms 260. Then the next time we tried to run it it wouldn't start.. Tried a few times since with no success. . I think its a good canidate. Not sure

Definitely worth restoring, I have two of the 1984 year models that I use daily. My opinion on your starting issues from experience is first I'd check the gap between the coil and magneto. What I found to work best is about the thickness of a dollar bill between the two. If it's not that I'd try cleaning the carb and retuning it, that was the problem with mine when I first purchased them. Haven't had a problem since I got the carb straightened out.

This is my daily 490 I use
