Hi guys,
I've had a bit of a look but couldn't find anything on this, but is there a list of how much each bar/chain combo weight? eg how much more does a 25 inch weigh than a 20 inch? how much less does a skip tooth weigh over a standard chain? is a 20 inch 050 lighter than a 20 inch 063? is there a way to measure the extra resistance from the longer chain/bar (when not in the wood)?

Thanks heaps,

Adam

Some of that takes a scale and arithmetic. There have been threads on here with pictures of bars on scales. Try to find such, contribute with pictures of what you have, suggest what you are curious about.

On the small end Stihl chain is heavier than Oregon 1/4 by 0.050, 3/8lp probably pretty similar in the larger.

0.063 bar in a solid replaceable nose is generally same as the 0.050 one just more metal removed for the groove. For laminated the center lamina differs so the answer there is different but small. Might be better to call the lengths in drive lengths not inches.

Static resistance per length would be pretty easy to measure a few new set ups and plot on a graph.

Just find a thread with Gaudaost posting and drop a hint like “I heard bar and chain weight and sometimes resistance will affect how easy it is to install bearings” and in the next few days you’ll have a detailed thread with every bar and chain combo known to man forensically examined ;)
