Recently tore down about a cheapo Poulan saw I got for free. The guy said his brother used it and it stoped mid cut. The guy found out the spark plug wire melted through. The guy replaced the coil and it still wouldn’t fire. The guy also said the fuel filter was off the fuel line. Anyways, the saw had only about 50-60psi of compression so I am just salvaging some parts of it and found the piston and cylinder in really bad shape. What causes this?

That unfortunately is a normal death for these saws. They come from the factory with the carb set too lean and they are purchased by people who know nothing about tuning a saw. If you want to treat it as a learning project, the saws are easy to work on and the top end parts from China are cheap.
