044 Stihl, It has a seven tooth drive sprocket now. It is getting an Oregon 24", 3/8" pitch, .050" gauge bar and an Oregon 84 link half skip, square ground chain. Will the seven tooth still work? In the owners manual Stihl recommends an eight tooth for their equivalent to a 24" Oregon bar.

I’ve tried an 8 tooth a few times, just for kicks.

Every time I used it I noticed some things that got me to change back

-was no more faster, even on shorter bars
-chains would overheat, even with my 395 on a 24 with max oil output.
-was hard to keep a consistent cutting speed

Saws just like 7 for some reason, even the more powerful ones in my opinion.

Haven’t used the 8 pin rim in almost a year now
