Why am I a glutton for punishment....... old and crusty/rusty Stihl TS510AV. My cousin picked it up from his uncle. If I remember correctly, I un-froze the throttle on this thing like 15years ago.. LOL....it is stuck again. And so is the choke... and let's not forget the recoil is froze up too! corrosion city!

Got good compression, piston clear with no scoring, old plug color looked ok, still rotates as does the clutch. I'm thinking carb kit and new fuel lines to see if it pops then go from there.... ughhhhh....

how about a... mobile workbench? one on the other?

a tool chest! scrounged up this Kennedy 297 7-drawer roller other day. then found me local a Kennedy 526... and grabbed that! both deals right place, right time. not perfect, but good enuff for me and my saws. added a top mat, DIY drawer liners... and cleaned the 526. it was loaded with tools! cleaned the wheels, lubed and serviced. still want to clean slides, air blow and lube. time consuming. this is my 4th roll-a-round tool box, bottom/top... mission is to return to service, touch up cosmetics. barely $50 in it, part of a 7-day estate Super Scrounge couple houses down... new the set new is +/- $1500.00 depending upon who the supplier is. Kennedy boxes and parts... omg, worse than buying new Harley parts! 😕 clean up etc going well... 👍

.last pix just a trial run of some stuff used and about. handles removed, deburred screws, lubed and reinstalled. each handle worked clean and to new- brite againP1010001.JPG

from the S-Scrounge, a near new Coleman 508 camp stove. took apart topside, cleaned and serviced. modded up air ports, deburred. working like NIB out of box!!! trial run a success... burner ring had some caked on black! wanted it off b4 cooking on it. removing it was a tall order... sanding, grinding, 150, 320, 600, 1000, 1200 to DIY hand polish smoth and metal brite again...

.cooks like a charm! 🤩P1010045.JPG

Well you can definitely tell summer is coming folks! 8:30pm and beautiful sunset shining through my open shop door!
On my bench recently, kind of a special saw to me is my girlfriends late grandfathers saw handed down as a parts saw to her father, then handed off to me in a lot of 3 saws. It’s a 1987 Husqvarna 50 I made into a 55 hybrid and my first time porting experiment. I haven’t really ran her yet cause weather hasn’t been the greatest but seems to run decent so far! I will get her into some wood soon to compare to the un-ported 55 hybrid I built for my first saw.

Jeeeeezzzz... that was an ordeal! Just cleaning the rust off the carb screws took waaaaaay too much time! I hate myself already...
But carb turned out nice. New kit installed and waiting for intake gaskets. Then a few rubber lines and see if she pops over or becomes a new boat anchor! LOL

Update... demo saw on hold for other pressing matters...

It is kinda on a bench.... yes? Wooden platform technically. Was time for the 5 year clean and grease the dryer adventure. Had a plastic air duct to replace in the front also. Damn screws always fell out causing the plastic to break! JUNK.

A shop vac and compressed air were my friends today. They didn't seem to mind...

A new belt wouldn't hurt but don't have one on hand ATM. It's ordered, along with a few other spare parts for the future. But I can use it now and it is much cleaner and quieter. YAY!

This model really isn't that bad. Just gotta peel the layers back to get to the goods. Now the prices of replacement parts are un-real!

5yrs ago it needed the heating element replaced. Got an OEM unit for $75. Now that same part has jumped up to $195. WHAT THE FRICK! Thankfully all the stuff I got coming are minor stuff for the next cleaning/re-greasing or if it fails beforehand.

Just flipping crazy prices... may just replace the whole unit next time as it is 15 yrs old!

Dying thread. Just finished this pine pitch covered one. Not pretty, but runs nice. New Caber rings, fuel line, impulse line, fuel filter, carb boot, carb kit, opened muffler under stock deflector, spark plug, and hold a steady 7lbs vacuum, etc. View attachment 766195 View attachment 766196 View attachment 766197 View attachment 766198 View attachment 766200 View attachment 766201 View attachment 766202 View attachment 766203
Pine Pitch sucks, I have a bunch of 372 parts if you are looking to buy.. I would like to be rid of them...

Ok... need the wisdom of the collective hivemind. Back on the demo saw project here. Stihl TS510 AV

I got the carb rebuilt, new fuel, vent and impulse lines. Cleaned up the rust on the clutch drum, re-greased the bearing. Cleaned off the rust on flywheel and coil with a re-gap. On to the non-working recoil.

Recoil and fuel tank are 1 piece. Stihl calls it Fan Housing. Fuel tank inside looks perfect. Recoil was froze stiff. I sprayed with PB Blaster and freed it some so the cord comes out aboot 1.5 feet. Still had a wrap left on the rotor but she stops right dead. Decided to cut rope and let things fly out to look at the innards. Not good. Corrosion and rust took its toll badly.

Looking for used units on eBay showed some confusion with part numbers as well as net search IPL. The 2 local Stihl dealerships had no help to offer as of part number interchangeably from what I have to what I find.

My unit has 111 084 1005 on backside of tank. On a certain website, I find 1111 080 1820 that fits the TS510 and TS760.

On eBay, I found a good shape unit that looks to be for a TS760 with part number of 1111 084 1061 A. This unit has the correct pawl and rotor setup for my project unit.

There are 2 units on eBay with my part number but are in similar crappy condition.... not wanting to buy and polish another turd part.

So, can anybody shed some light on these part numbers and the possible interchangeability of them????

Thanks!

The fan housing 1111 080 1820 will fit your machine. The old one with friction shoe is not compatible with your machine. According to your pictures you have the starter with pawl not the old one with friction shoe.

Two more Stihls to check out, an 039 that's broken everywhere, looks like it was run over by the log truck and a not so easy start MS180. The 039 will probably end up being a parts saw and the 180 feels like it might be flooded, I'll turn it over tomorrow with the spark plug out and see what runs out of it..
I have worked on quite a few of the 180's, the fuel line system is a fail, not one of stihls better ideas. The Zama carbs are really finicky and the high speed butterfly can be problematic. They also use an accelerator pump which even a very small peice of debris can jam them. I quit trying to work on the carb on two of them. I just buy a new one (Zama OEM) for $55. The Chinese clone carbs you can get online to replace them don't have the accelerator pumps. They will cause a flat spot till the RPM catches. I've rebuilt a lot of Walbros and Zamas on Stihls, but that Zama on the 180 is something of an abomination. The Tech and parts guy at the local Stihl dealer recommended me not to even try.
