Ok. Not sure what the issue is. My home build splitter dies under load. It does when the ram is maxed out in either direction or when trying to split a chunk of oak. At first I thought the old Techumpsa was at fault...so I replaced it with a new Briggs. Same HP. Now I have an easier starting machine that still bogs. I looked for a place on the pump to adjust the 2 stage, but that doesn't seem to be there....any ideas? Pics and following. Video link (I hope) https://photos.app.goo.gl/jktN6qyL59oFvy4BA

Your Vickers pump is not a 2-stage pump. The pressure relief adjustment is under the hex cap next to the valve handle. After the hex cap is removed there will be a adjustment screw that you turn counter clockwise to lower the max pressure. Only make small 1/4 turn adjustments until the engine does not stall. The Vickers pump may require an engine larger than what you have.

When the cylinder bottoms or tops out or the wedge meets something it can't split, the relief valve should open up to prevent damage and so the engine does not stall. Maybe yours is stuck or adjusted too tight.

Doesnt look like your lovejoy coupling has a rubber spyder in it either. If it doesnt and your dont replace, your coupling is going to fail. From the looks of the v10 pump center section, as well as the large port sizes, I think your pump may be pumping more oil flow than your little engine can handle. Also, the Vickers pumps are vane type pumps designed to be run at around 1800 rpms. Turning your pump faster than that will increase oil flow, but with increased wear to the pump leading to early failure. You have several things wrong with the pump/engine combo on this splitter and If it was mine, I would look for a real two stage pump and do away with the Vickers.
