Jonsereds 70E, 18" replaceable sprocket nose Total Superbar, grease applicator, chain (worn out) and two more miscellaneous chains, Homelite ST200 strimmer (1983), clamshell post hole digger, and Warwood 10lb sledgehammer (cracked handle), all for $20! Do I suck? I think I do! O

So the 394 I posted above fell through, seller ghosted me when I wouldn't do a deal with him off of ebay. Also the 18-in bar plug in electric saw I've been using for small jobs burned up a couple weeks ago so I've been on the lookout for a smaller saw. Caught this one on Facebook Marketplace $25 listed as "worked a few years ago". I was lucky and was the first one to message the seller. when I picked it up he said there was a lot of interest, which doesn't surprise me. He asked that I let him know if I get it running. Took it home and put in some fresh gas and a little down the throat of the carb and it started right up and seems to run good, I need to get a chain though to make sure everything's working but definitely seems like a good $25 spent

20" sprocket nose bar has some rust damage but I'm hopeful its still usable.

The 70E is alive! Good spark plug, fuel filter, and air filter. 135 PSI! I put a little fuel in the gas tank, and it started in less than 10 pulls! I'm a happy guy! Now that I know it's worth the effort, I will give it a good cleaning and get it a new chain. O

Most of the cleaning involved removing surface rust from the guide bar. I found a chain that fit in a bunch of about a dozen chains that a friend gave me 2-3 years ago. It's marked OREGON with 72 stamped on the drivers. It's almost like new, but I don't know what kind of chain it is or what it's meant for.

If anyone can tell me more about what this chain is, please share. BTW, this saw is rated at the same horsepower as my Stihl 036, but it weighs 1/3 more! It will not likely be my daily driver! Thanks for watching! O

Great saw at a great price! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine:

They are quite addicting, as you can see! O

Thanks, Yeah I kind of messaged the seller not expecting much as I figured it would already be gone... and then figuring I'd have to do a bunch of work to get a runner... Didn't actually have anything but a few drops of gas on hand when I got it home... but it fired immediately with them in the throat and sputtered out; so I was hopeful. Had to go to a cook out right after that but picked some gas up on the way home and she ran for a good minute or two and sounded great once I gassed her up. Chain coming tomorrow and I'll see if she A: Cuts and B: starts without a splash in the carb. Was thinking about springing for a battery system saw for small jobs, but if this thing starts and runs as easy as it feels like it will; it'll be a nice alternative.

Also snagged a bigger old Homelite (775d, sold as running great and arriving this weekend) on eBay the other day with a 21" bar... so if this bar proves to be damaged beyond use; I can swap that one on at least... plan to stick a 36" large stihl mount bar on that saw with an adapter.

Wow! A 775D with a 95cc 20lb power head! I assume no anti vib; that will give you a good workout! I bought an XL923 a few years back for $5 at an estatesale. 82cc with a 20in bar, no chain brake or anti vib. After many hours of my life and about $300 more invested, I now have a good user with a 31" NOS Windsor bar. The original 20" bar is now serving duty on one of my Super XLs!

This is the 923 as I was about to replace the broken handle/air box. It's a 1972 and weighs 24lb as you see it. Can't wait to see pictures of your projects! O

My theory is that everyone loves those Massage guns now right? If I use a big enough saw with no antivibe... it'll turn my bones into a massage gun for my insides. Total muscle therapy.

Yeah, the interesting part will be... Acres lists it as 7/16" pitch... so when it gets here... I have to check the sprocket and see if it really is 7/16"... and then decide which is the best move...

Try to find a 7/16" sprocket nose, use a hardnose 36" bar, or try to replace the sprocket with a .404 and use a .404 sprocket nose bar.

I don't know if these count as scrounges, i didn't go looking for them. My old climber that retired 4-5 years ago came up and gave me his old Echo climbing saw. He said it strarted up but if you pointed the tip down fuel gushed out of it? I haven't looked at it yet. The other one is an Echo also, CS 400. My daughter bought the house two doors down from me. The previous owner sold them all of his lawn equipment for $500. Brand new snow blower, full set of power pruner, hedge clipper, weed whacker and brush blade, bunch of other stuff. i finally looked at the Echo. it looks like new. I could get it to run pumping the primer, but so far it won't draw from the tank. i'll look at it later also.

775d arrived... beautiful saw. Hopefully I can test it after work today.

The good:
it's got a 404 clutch sprocket... so no 7/16 troubles.
Bar mounts are the same or close enough to be interchangeable with my echo cs-900evl
Could put one of my 070 bars on it with a shim and some oiler and tension adjustment hole drilling.

But... I did buy a mcculloch 36 inch hardnose bar for a good price that should be here soon... and I think it will fit with no mods... but it is .058, and .404 + .058 chain seems a bit harder to find than most... so we will see what the best option is... probably will wind up modding a 070 bar in the long run.

I've got a Mac roller nose 45", 404, on my Homelite Super 1050. I got a rim to convert it to 1/2" but haven't done it yet.

Oregon 72 chain. LGX is full chisel, JGX is skip chisel. Should be 3/8” x .050. Yours is a safety chain of some kind.

Another member messaged me that he thought it was a chain that Oregon used to sell for cutting pulp wood. He said he previously owned one like it but sold it to a neighbor without ever using it himself. I tried using mine in some oak and was very disappointed. It seemed like it couldn't get a bite in the wood. That would make sense if was designed for soft woods. Anyway, I have a dozen or so chains a friend gave me. I found a different chain that fit my saw, sharpened it, and had no trouble cutting walnut. I guess I could grind down those connector links, but that would be way too much trouble. Thanks for your input. O
