I have less than two-year-old cypress, about 6” tall, that I grew from seed. A couple are starting to develop multiple trunks and I wonder if I should be controlling it or letting them grow naturally.

If it grows taller than 20 feet, you need a central leader. But if you’re going to keep it short, no. My cypress have a natural central leader, but it depends on what you want it to look like.

Thank you for your reply Seachaser! —I want it tall, thick, and grand! In that case, it sounds like I should prune off all but the central trunk, is that right? Is there a best practice method, such as how close to the trunk it should be pruned?
