Do you need a piston and cylinder for this saw or are you just wanting to see if you can make it have a larger displacement? A 288xp husky top end will not bolt up to the saw. A 2083 jonsered piston and cylinder will bolt on and give you a 83cc saw. Good luck finding one. Rare as hens teeth. A poulan 475 and 505 will also fit your saw. I have heard that a stihl 064 piston (with a little machining) can be modified to work with the 2077 jug and make it quite a runner. Rick!!!!!
Actually the saw runs great, unfortunately I'm completey hooked on chainsaws now. AND I blame this website and all the great people on this site! Anyway I started with a 254xp, not enough....bought a homelite 360 (more like I rescued it), not enough....bought a MS310 put a 390 piston and cylinder, modded muffler...not enough, bought a Dolmar 120 super, ported the head and muffler, close but not enough...So I just recently picked up this 2077turbo, I've only tried it with a 18" bar and worn out chain and it rips. But I want to give it more pop so I can run a 30" bar and chain. I think I'm one of the most impatient people when it comes to bucking and limbing. I want the saw to go through the wood like a hot knife through butter. I have to say it's been a lot of fun and I have to thank everyone out here for the great info they provide.
I have a 2077 and a Poulan pro 475, they are great saws, run forever. The poulan pro parts will interchange, also a stihl 460 piston will fit right in with no modifications, and they seem to run a little stronger. good luck great saw!
Your 2077 Jonsered should pull a 32" bar if its in good condition. A little better using a skip chain. Keep your chain good and sharp and it will do the job. It's not a hotrod, it's a good solid firewood saw that is pretty dependable. Ive got a Poulan Pro 475 which is a yellow and black Jonsered 2077. I run a 24" bar with a full chisel chain. These have 5.4 hp stock and do a muffler mod and youve got a decent firewood saw.
Sense Ive not done this myself I cant really comment about the stihl piston swap. I bought my 475 at an auction 2yrs. ago nonrunning for $15.00. After I spent $150.00 more on new OEM parts I'm very pleased. I replaced my stock scored piston in my saw with new OEM piston ass. Mine has so much compression that It will kick back at times and about ripp your arm off. I did a muffler mod to it an left everything else stock. Rick!
Good to here your 2077 saw rips with a 28" bar. I guess it should handle a 30" no problem with a full chisel and a muffler mod. This way I can keep a 20" on my dolmar 120S, and put a 18" or 16" on my 254xp. I wish I had the coin for a new dolmar but that's not happening
Sorry about the slow return post. The 460 piston has a slightly higher dome area so it must increase compression slightly, I used a meteor piston, real good quality, and a good price. They can be purchased from Baileys.
