Been on a small shopping spree this weekend and I picked up a few nice saws. One a very clean 028 super from an elderly couple, still on its original chain, pretty much on its last sharpen, so really not much use at all. The other a nice 630 super 2. It feels very solidly built and I've been wanting a Jonsered for a while! I seem to remember reading a larger husqvarna cylinder and piston would fit? I've not tuned a chainsaw before so was wondering about doing an exhaust mod and upgrading the pot/piston as a starter? Would be nice to make it the best it can be but my other thought is it'd be a shame to mess with a nice stock saw? Aswell I also have a 162se already in bits that requires crank seals and has a leaking fuel tank so maybe have a first go at this and see how easy it is and how it turns out?!!

I think the 630 super 2 has the good 48mm closed port cylinder on it, it's a good strong saw as is.
The only upgrade cylinder wise would be an OEM 272, I doubt the aftermarket 272 will be better than the 630's cylinder even tho it's bigger.
It's not a cheap upgrade, you need cylinder, intake and carb off a 272. The aftermarket intakes are junk dont even try one of those, I did once, that was once too much, they wont seal.

The 630 Super II is far and above the 162 though the 162 is its direct ancestor. Numerous upgrades to the Super II as it is the apex of the 48 mm line in this family, orange or red. A 630 Super is a great saw but the Super II just that much better. I wouldn’t mess with that saw except maybe a MM. I have a ported one that I built 10 years ago, sold it, got it back and it still has great power and speed. It tunes to 14,500 and fattening it up to slow it down just burns more fuel so it is happy at 14,500 and so am I. Your saw is to nice to experiment with. The 162 would be a better candidate to play with IMHO..
