Good to see you went ahead and did this thread Ron, looks clear enough to me, maybe a mention of removing the needles and blowing out passages with carb cleaner would also be helpful.

Looks great, I love how you placed the arrows in the pictures. I always just put them back together the way I took them apart, but its still nice you cleared it up.

So now ya know why it's shaped like a "w" instead of a straight edge!

Not to rag on ya Ron, but different Walbro carbs have different specs for the position of the metering lever relative to horizontal plane of the carb body. Ya can't just apply the "straight edge" approach across the board as was mentioned in a previous thread on the subject.

There are probably more fuel related performance problems/complaints due to incorrect metering level adjustment than most other reasons combined.

Think about it.

Yes,,,,BUT,,check out the second pic and see how to use the straight edge :)
It's shaped like "W" because it's made by walbro ??
I should get the "Z" shaped one from Zama and make wind chimes ?

They both have their respective purposes according to the specifications of the carb relative to the metering adjustment tool and the prescribed position of the tool to adjust the metering lever of a specific carburator.

Z, W, whatever they use for their purpose..., the result should be what they're anticipating a competent mechanic could pull off given the specs for the carb.

Nowthen, is there an "R" tool that'll handle the metering level adjustments on all carbs for $3.95 plus $7.95 shipping out there somewhere?

Oh, that's right. It's called a "straight edge"!

Bottom line ---- use the right metering lever adjustment tool to obtain the correct specs according to the manufacturer for adjusting metering level height if you want to eliminate that particular aspect of any given performance problem from being the cause. Period.

When you say "competent" i hope your not including ME !! i dont even KNOW anybody like that :)
Your correct on the rest tho, using the right tool..
however i think spending $12 for a straight edge is a bit much..i wasted $6 delivered on the walbro tool just to debunk it,but it IS pretty :) and easier to find than my machinist straight edge..in fact the walbro tool even comes with a hole to tie in a tether strap !! how can ya beat that !!?? use a long bootlace and hang it around your neck for some "bling" ?? :msp_laugh:
as anybody can see by looking at pix #1 and #2 the walbro tool is a straight edge on every side except the WAT side..however the carb bodies on those have the molded "boss" around the lever put there for the "sole" purpose of adjusting with a straight edge from the factory..
thank you for your comments, instead of the info getting buried cognizant members like you can help keep the thread up where somebody may see it and make use of it..

im rebuilding one of these, i normaly put them back the way i took it apart but it was already taken apart before i started under the fuel pump side is there a plug that goes on top of the the fuel strainer.
im pretty sure it doesnt go there but just to make sure

Thanks

Very nice job. That should eliminate about 10,000 questions about how to put the pump and diaphragm in. :blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2::blob2:

Is this info good for a WT-394 as well? I can't locate a manual for the WT.

Found this image in my Walbro book, don't know for sure if it fits with the -394 model. I had to load it sideways to get it to fit, sorry!

Great thread!!!
This is exactly why I love this forum, a guy goes out of his way to be helpfull, to those of us that don't know!

If your talking about the little screen that sits down in the hole and acts like a filter,,IF it was covered by a plug the fuel would go nowhere !!.. sounds like somebody may have thought a welch plug should be there but NO !
