    Questions for hand splitters

Like others have mentioned before, I think it's important to "read" the grain pattern to see which way is going to be easiest to split. You don't generally need a heavy maul to do it. I have a 16lb "monster" maul, and also a smaller one and a Fiskars. I use the fiskars most b/c it works the...

    Purple or Pink Husky?

I think you have just found a use for a Bedazzler. Oh, and Kylon fusion paint is supposed to work well on plastic.

    tires for the wood hauler

Buckshot mudders are made by Maxxis. They would be not nearly as aggressive as the boggers, but would be a lot better on the road, and they last a long time. The boggers are super aggressive, but on the pavement wear out really fast and are ungodly loud. Plus they are super expensive. I guess...

And yeah, it does make a noticeable difference.

"Turbo" Crank: http://www.snowtechmagazine.com/articles/2002/turbocrank.php We used to take snowmobile and dirt bike cranks over to Art's for drag sleds/ race bikes. Sure it would work on a saw too...

Meet the neighbors: How's it going for woodcutters?

The Red Green Show is good stuff. An old neighbor was a DEAD RINGER for Uncle Red! He had the beard, always wore a flannel shirt, and the same camo hat. It was all you could do to keep a straight face when you saw him. He even sounded like him!

    038 Magnum II Tags

How much faster, % wise, would you say the racing stripes added to your cutting speed? :D

    038 Magnum II Tags

Thanks for the pictures. I guess I'll keep watching the 'bay for a cover with the tag I want, or I have someone that is dying to play with their new laser etcher so I may just have him play away and etch me a sweet new badge.

    038 Magnum II Tags

I recently bought a Stihl 038 Mag II, and top model tag/badge/plate or whatever you want to call it is faded and nearly rubbed off. Does anyone know where I can get one? The one I need is the one with the Magnum II in red letters. I checked at my dealer, and the only ones showing he could get...

    Rotax 299cc???

You could also use a Polaris ATV transmission, those have a secondary clutch on one side and sprocket out on the other - some are even 4x4 like on my quad! Would make a cool kart with the Rotax power. be careful if you decide to do it though, b/c pretty soon you'll be wanting to put an 800...

    Rotax 299cc???

If you are looking to make a kart, one thing you may want to try and find is a drive unit (transmission) from an old OMC (johnson or Evinrude) snowmobile. They have a secondary clutch on the input side, and then a splined shaft to accept a sprocket on the other. Plus, they have a disk brake...

    Rotax 299cc???

Pretty sure the 300 used a Tillotson HR carb. You could get a flange pretty easily and put a Mikuni carb also - just need a fuel pump. There are lots of parts around for those engines around. If you want to put a pipe on it, look for one from something that had the same stroke. There are lots of...

    Mystery Machine

Sounds like you've got your bases covered in the fuel dept. now with all the parts swapping and tests you've done. Could it be an ignition issue?

    Show us your wood lot

Lol! Yeah, I put that on there for size illustration purposes. I can definitely use 1 (or 11) AFTER a day cutting back there!

    Show us your wood lot

Here are a few more: The front part of the woods was mostly ash and maple, which luckily didn't withstand the damage the rest did. It definitely gives me something to do, but cutting in a blowdown like this is not too much fun.

    Show us your wood lot

Cool pictures - I'll post what's "left" of my woods. Stupid tornadoes.... Hit in October 07', still working on cleaning up the aftermath. 40 acres of mainly the same. The good news is that most trees were half up rooted and therefore still in the ground getting water and...

What's on your bench this weekend?

Bought an 038 Mag II and gave it a good once over. Pulled the muffler to check it out, no scoring on the piston and cylinder= good news. Checked compression and was just over 150#. Chain break handle missing= bad news - of course it was missing the whole chain break assembly. Luckily I had a...

    Sad day for my 031av

The condensers seem to be a problem electrical component too - it was on my old 031 anyway. I got a new (used) one from my dealers misc. parts bin and it took care of my no spark problem. Cheaper than the coil if that is the problem... I do see lots of used coils and 031 parts on the bay all the...
