Keep in the back of your mind on a MS311

Had one come in this morning. "want start" on the ticket. Turns out it did not have any fire. A little rare actually. So, I put a new ignition module on it . Still no fire. Disconnected the kill wire. Still no fire. Guess what. There are two different ignitions for those saws. One for the...

Sort of a tangent to the Stihl spark plug size difference in same saws ?

Why did they change the flywheel sides crankcase so that a new version uses 4MM screws to hold the ignition module and the earlier versions were 5 MM. Surely It couldn't be the cost of the screw.

Question for some of you smart Stihl mechanics ??

What is the part number for the impulse line on a MS192 T ? Runs from behind the flywheel to a nipple on the back of the carb housing. If it is on the IPL durned if I can find it. Thanks I guess it has to be 19 and 20 , hose with a spring. But, that is nothing like what's on it. What is on...

Stihl MS201CM Question for Stihl Techs

So, this is not a top handle saw. It has a primer bulb at about one o'clock under the starter cover. Gentleman brings it in and says it is cutting off on him and he thinks it is because the primer bulb is not filling. So, I replace the primer bulb and in the meantime check the old one by just...

Stihl 026 Air leak or carb ?

So, it will sit and idle perfectly. Make a few cuts and next thing you know it is taching 14,500 no load. And, it will settle right back down and idle perfectly. It has that useless fixed jet carb with no adjustment, not available anymore, luckily probably. You can still order the adjustable...

Here is something you don't see every day.

Stihl 044 . Gentleman said there was a strange noise coming from the clutch. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/ah308/rgerringer/IMG_0946.JPG

    Green Mtronic solenoids ?

I have two new in the box. Should I use them on a saw that has a bad white solenoid, or not.

Odd things I have seen this week

Had a Stihl FS90R that wound the plastic insert around the drive shaft. It had melted the plastic to the shaft. Looked like when you wring out a wash cloth. Could not get them apart, and had to drive it out of the tube. Had a MS201TC with the complaint losing power in the cut. The sprocket had...

    MS201T Curiosity

Well, they dropped it out of a tree or ran over it. Whatever. My partner in crime put a new handle on it. And, it does not want to run correctly. New solenoid, new carb, same thing. Here is the weird part. You can set in on the mat on the floor in the triangle position and it will sound normal...

Speaking of limited coils or not ? Four Mix Engines

Maybe Stihltech or somebody can tell me how to tune a four stroke Stihl weedeater. The FS90 and FS91 sound to me like they are skipping. What I have been doing is wind out a typical working amount of line and lean the high screw until I hear the engine slow a little and then turn it out one...

    Stihl 031/032 ignition repair

There is a guy on eBay that offers a coil repair for $80. Has anybody tried it and did it work OK ?

    Help diagnosing MS500I

The saw will start and idle for a couple of seconds and cut off. If you are quick getting to the throttle it will rev up and sounds normal, like you could cut with it normal, but if you drop back to idle it will run maybe 5 seconds and cut off. I thought it might be the fuel pump, so I replaced...

Homelite C-5 Ignition Coil Continuity Question

This is an aftermarket coil that slips over the laminated core that crosses the magnet in the flywheel. It has two wires coming out. One red, one white. I assumed the red went to the points and the white grounded where the condensor mounts. Problem is that the red wire and white wire coming out...

Stihl BR800X fan nut torque value ???

Can somebody with access to the Stihl specifications advise me what the torque value should be for this ??? They did away with the threaded hub and went to a taper like a chuck. I have one that the fan slipped one time, or hub broke. Not sure. But, the replacement literally wore the taper off...

    Cylinder Pitting

This is an OEM Stihl TS420. Almost new. Was straight gassed but cleaned up easily. But, these pits make me wonder whether to reuse it or not. Think this will be a problem ? Appears to be a manufacturing defect. What do you think ? P.S., if anybody knows how to make this photo show without...

    Husqvarna 570 and Murphy's Law

Well, I thought I would do my neighbor a favor and get his 570 back running after it was straight gassed by some mystery person in the middle of the night. But, apparently nobody believes they ever made one 49 MM . I already have the cylinder slick enough for government work, but no piston. I...

    Tillotson Carb Question ?

On a Dolmar 120SI the carb has a shaft that runs in to the carb at about a 15 degree angle and to a lever on the outside right of the throttle trigger. You turn it maybe 1/4 of a turn. Think it might say choke , but there is no choke butterfly. How does that thing work ?

    Stihl 041 curious issue

I am working on a 041 and the impulse nipple is stopped up. I mean stopped up. Not sure from what or with what. Don't think I can get a steel wire through it. Is that nipple pressed in ? Any way to get it out and back in without breaking it ? Any ideas ?

Need some help with a Stihl 032 ignition

I was hoping it was the trigger. Replaced it with the Oregon unit and it still runs about twenty seconds and cuts off. So, I'm assuming it is the coil. Problem is my IPL doesn't even show that type of ignition, or doesn't show the trigger anyway. So, what is the correct coil ? Seems like they...

Cross Performance MMWS MS660 cylinder port picked ring

No more to the story than that. Picked the ring on the exhaust side. Pretty disappointing considering I was under the impression they were a good product. After the fact I could see it was a sharp edge. My bad I suppose for using the junk to start with.
