wicked work saw down for a few days due to kidney stone.

Well, it sounds like you are slowly but surely on the way to mending. Definitely take it easy over the next few days. Kidney stones are a wild ride no matter which direction you go in.

Wow, yeah, 9mm ain't going anywhere on it's own. Good luck with surgery man!

wicked work saw down for a few days due to kidney stone.

Goddam, I log on to read about saws and come across this horror story! I had stones about 5 years ago, and can totally sympathize with everything said here. I had lithotripsy on both stones, one was 4mm and the other 7mm. The 4mm came out intact, like a little BB, while the 7mm monster came...

New Techlite Bar Nose Sprocket Locked Up Today

It doesn't take much to lock up a tip sprocket -- could just have been a stray chip. It happens more often when noodling in my experience.

    Echo horsepower -from Yamabiko

It's pretty easy to ignore the bashers, considering the complete crap that comes flying out of their mouth. Acting like a complete ignorant doofus in public really doesn't help credibility. I would be able to appreciate honest educated criticism if someone were articulate enough to discuss...

Labonville Full wrap chaps-anything better out there?

The 10 ply will be a lot heavier, and to me it's overkill for what you describe. If I were you, I'd get the 6 ply. Don't over think the length -- measure from your belt to the top of your work boot, and use that number to pick a size (go no longer than that number).

    Stihl MS-441 CQ Magnum

The Ace dealer near me sells the full Stihl line, with a focus on the pro models. If it was a CQ, that is a quickstop model. That's a consumer feature for sure, and seems odd on a saw like the 441. I haven't ever seen a quickstop model at either of my two local Stihl dealers.

    Echo horsepower -from Yamabiko

Funny, unlike most of the bashers, I own and run Stihl and Echo saws and regularly run Huskys. I honestly don't have any issues with the Echos. Out in the real world, sawing wood, they do just fine. If they didn't, I wouldn't keep them alongside the others. I just bought a new Echo...

    iPhone users.!!

I develop mobile apps across all platforms, and I'm not worried about Apple or iOS right now. At least from the standpoint of sophistication/richness of apps, they are still way out in front. That said, Android is always getting better and leads in many areas too. I don't think any one...

    my first stihl 261

There's always a lot of confusion between green/yellow and cutter shape, but as noted they are independent things. I am also a bit amused when people talk about how much better the yellow cuts, yet the only time you'd really notice the difference is when making plunge or bore cuts. I think...

    Stihl MS461 R

I have about 20 tanks through my 461, and it's definitely the real deal. Copious amounts of torque, which I noticed on the very first tank. And what surprised me the most is the throttle response -- it's surprisingly good for such a big saw.

Anybody try a long bar on an MS-461 ? Not enough range in tensioner

I have since had the issue with another bar -- a Carlton SpeedTip 20" I use for milling. It wasn't the adjuster running out of range, rather, it just seemed to bind, giving the impression it ran out of range. I was able to loosen it up and re-tighten with no problems. Based on this, I...

    Craftsman 358.354830 Won't Stay Running/Restart

Was the saw put away for a long time with ethanol fuel in the carb and fuel system? If it wasn't run dry and then the ethanol fuel sat for a long time (common with chainsaws) then I would suggest checking and replacing any parts that could have been affected.

    Echo cs500 vs cs530

Let me share my story about Stihl/Echo dealers. Last fall when Hurricane Irene hit, I was in need of a chainsaw before the storm, and none could be found. I was stuck using my Dad's old 1972 Poulan, which is a fine saw, but was temperamental (I later gave it a thorough rebuild). On top of...

MS361 Problem - Oil/Fuel Leaking from Under the Muffler

May simply need a new muffler gasket. Though if it's leaking a lot, it could also be set way too rich.

    Echo cs500 vs cs530

I am mainly a Stihl man, but that's for their pro saws. I'd take an Echo (any Echo) before I'd buy a homeowner grade Stihl. I have compared Echos and homeowner Stihls at the same price points, and there's no question in my mind the Echos are better made saws.

    Echo cs500 vs cs530

Both of those Echos are real good saws. I'd get them with an 18" bar. I do think the 500p is maybe the better option, but I'd suggest handling each one and decide which feels better in your hands.

optimal bar chain for novice ms261 owner

Agreed. I have tried many combos on my 261, including a 20" E bar, which drives fine but is nose heavy. I think 18" E with 0.325 is the sweet spot.

Stihl 271 Really aint so bad

Get a 261 -- to me that is the clear standout in Stihl's lineup in this size range. You'll get the best power/weight ratio. They normally come standard with an 18" bar.
