big hackberry

Good sized hackberry. Not cutting it or anything - it's in the yard of a local small engine repair place. I guess it's just under 4' across.

I have a large Hackberry next to the house. Too close for comfort. I need to take it down. A few years ago, during a rain storm, a large branch split and fell to the side and on top of house. It almost took my AC system. Since it fell across the house power lines, I had to call the power company to shut down the lines while I cut the limbs. A nice helpful serviceman came to shut the power off. He waited while I worked in the rain with my pole saw cutting and moving the limbs. Only damage was the AC top cover. Too expensive to replace so I had to do some metal work and glue some of the plastic. It didn't look too bad.

Its fun how much different that tree looks to Hack's around southern Ohio.

Nice Hackberry. There are a few around this area like that tree. Yard or back-lot trees usually.

I really like hackberry for firewood. Good stuff when it's dry.
