Curious as to the blue top cover as well. Must have been a tree service or govt saw.
Wasn't sure about that either. Saw came from California. It's pretty beat up and low compression. Plan is to get it back in shape. Need some parts though.

SP80 or 81, all of the parts are interchangeable so it will be hard to know for sure.

Problem is the SP80 took a different piston than the later ones so you will need to try and track it down some how. The original SP80 saws had a three shoe clutch which could provide a clue.

The wider full wrap handle suggests it once had a brake, which would indicate an SP81.

The problem with Frankensaws is you never know which parts came from which saws.

Thanks Mark! Looks like it's leaning towards an 81. Will the block stamping tell me anything?

You may find a stamp on the cylinder head that read "A", "B", or "C"; any of those would confirm that the cylinder at least was from an SP81 and you can get the correct piston accordingly if needed.

I don't know of any other numbers stamped on the block of the 10 Series that would be helpful in identifying the saw.

Thanks Mark!

Ok. It has an A cylinder and I can see on the clutch that it used to have a brake on it. With carb info. and all of Mark's plethora of knowledge. It is an SP 81!
Been scanning the bay, this site and even the "C list". Not an SP 81 to be found. Or any parts for that matter! So kinda stuck holding a very large paper weight. In the mean time, I'll get it torn down and see if I can get by with just re-ringing it.

With the "A" stamp on the cylinder rings would be 87854, piston kit if needed (includes rings and bearings) is 92518. Rings should be easy to find, the pistons are available but can be expensive, my last one cost $64.

Mark
Thanks. I have yet to locate a piston. Rings on the bay are around $30. I'll check with Randy locally first. Thanks again for all of your help.
