    Harbor Freight Splitter

Just finished rebuilding a friends hydraulic cylinder on his Central Hydraulics log splitter from HF. This splitter is rated for about 10 cord of splitting per year. The front cylinder seal let go last weekend. We calculated that in 18 months we have split nearly 80 cord before failure. (5-6 friends using it regularly). The interesting thing is the internal nut on the shaft was 3/4 of the way off, and there was a seal missing from the factory. Pretty shoddy made in China quality control. Since it came with a seal replacement kit it was a 90 minute fix which included making a spanner wrench to disassemble the cylinder. Robin 9hp engine, 30ton cylinder, and once you put real hydraulic hoses on it - All in all a good value for $1100.00

Geez. That could take your hand off. I have one too, and it's been leaking since new. What did you do to fix the nut backing off, if I might ask? Others are finding the problem too: http://www.hearth.com/econtent/index...ead/23743/P75/
