I just bought a new Stihl 270 with an 18" bar. It came recommended as a good firewood saw, so I gave it a shot. I took it out with some buddies to clear some downfalls, and the damn thing wouldn't stay running. Talk about embarrasing when a guy goes and gets a Husky to save the day when your brand new Stihl doesn't work
I took it back to the dealer and they said it had a cracked impulse line. It seems to run fine now, but I am unsure that it is putting out the power it should. I ran some test cuts on 12" hickory and it cut just OK. I really expected a big difference in cutting speed over my ms180, and as well didn't expect it to bog down as much as it did once I really got into a piece of wood (it feels like it cuts the same as my buddies ms230 w/ 16").
I guess my questions are: 1) do you think there may still be something wrong with this saw that is keeping it from getting full power, 2) is it performing as expected, but I just had too high of expectations for this saw, 3) is it one of those saws that needs some mods to run at full potential?
