Most of the woodpile pictures I've seen posted here are in rural or small town settings.I have a place in the country, but I live very close to the center of Wichita,KS.No room for a wood shed, but I have a 52' long covered patio. My neighbors think I'm nuts! I really don't know how much I'll need for the season, but it is a big house and I am sure the Jotul 600 will be burning wide open most days.I figure 2 rows 4 cords, 3 rows 6 cords. The stove is right inside the door(big chimney) so it is very handy. My wife is sure there must be a code I'm violating...

Boy, that is one hig house. And a good sized stack of wood.

Although we're in the country, our lot is less than an acre and most of it slopes down to a brook and old millpond - therefore useless for stacking.

The dead and downed stuff gets thrown into the barn early in the gathering season, while the green stuff sits stacked in our dooryard. All of 08-09 is now in the barn, sheltered from the elements, with a 2 cord pile for next year sitting right out in the open, about 50' from the road.

Mmmmmm Hmmmmm

I figure on between 3 and 4 cords most years for my use and hold back an extra for just in case.

Nice looking place.

Ever consider a wood burning add on furnace for that big house Coog? Looks like you may have the chimney for it. I burned woodstoves for about 35 plus years and last year went furnace. Heats the basement, goes in the ducts and has a humidifier and the wife doesn't ##### about wood all over the house. Just a thought....

Love the convenient dry storage you got but my wife would hit me more often if I did that.

You might be nuts but you dont have to worry about that heating bill right! I wonder how long will that stack last you? the whole winter?

Nuts? Tell them you just enjoy the fruits of your own labor. That is, since there's no oil under your property, erecting a derrick in the front yard wasn't practical. Wood was the next best option.
