I would say Jonsered.... Because he would say Poulan. A Jonsered is just a Poulan in "RED" clothing. Go to their websites and look ! They look too much alike for my comfort !

There was a Big J-red dealer very close to where I work, for many many years....and Ive only ever seen one Jonsered in the shop in wel over a year. People gave up in them, the dealer went T*ts up....they went to the sh*t can.

Like it or not, the Quality for quite a while was not so great...and even now they are nothing but copies of Husqvarna.

ECHO all the way brother, Quality and Reliabilty in an affordable package that gets the job done.

:monkey: I have seen many Echo saws in the woods. All used by little old ladies cutting up rose bushes.

Quality has always been top notch with Jonsered. Husky copies or not. Keep telling yourself the pile of junk in your signature are good saws. Whatever you need to do to fall asleep at night. "Someday i will get to play with big boy toys".

I like both Jonsered and Echo... I just think Echo has a better branding image. Out of all of the saws that I own or have ever owned the Jonsered 450 is my favorite do to its looks!

The worst saw I have ever owned was a 2001 Husqvarna 55 rancher. It must have been made on Monday or Friday. I gave it away for free. Only 3 tanks of mix every run through it!

I like Echo too, don't get me wrong, Red just thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread. Echo is in every Home Depot, very easy brand to recognize.

Echo's have their place. Pruning rose bushes and hedges.

I think the point is being missed. If you conducted a survey in every state, and combined the results, I belive that more people would be familer with Echo then Jonsered for sure.

Remember the survey would not be just of AS members. :)

That is what I was trying to get across. More people outside the industry would know the Echo...

Who cares what the "man on the street" thinks. Taplinhill is right, just a bunch of city folks that might not really be sure what a chainsaw actually is.

I would take a Jonsered over an Echo any day.

I hear echo makes a descent string trimmer. I won't be giving up my FS46 anytime soon though.

I never heard of a Jonsered before I came to this site.

Although, most of the people around here have "stills", not "steels".

Same here
still is what the dealer stocks, steel is what the dealer does.:hmm3grin2orange:

No I get the point, Echo is a brand that is easily recognized. I think you are missing my point; Red is an idiot. :)

Right, everyone probably knows what an echo is. Nobody around here knows what a Jonsered is, though I have converted a few folks when they ran mine. I have never ever EVER EVER seen an echo at a race btw, if that says anything.

If you are just looking to pimp out homeowner junk in your shop, go with the echo.

All echo engines have a durability rating of 300 like the commercial stihl saws.

The stihl fs45, 46 have 50 hour durability ratings.

The MS390 has 150 durability rating where the MS361 is 300 hour durability rating, on the stihl front.

How come only the professional Stihl equipment has 300 hours and all the homeowner Stihl stuff has 50 to 150 hour rating.

And I will repeat all echo pe has 300 hour durability?

I guess the point is a 50 year old women that is my treehugger friend that belongs to the Sierra Club, drive a VOLVO donates more money in a year than a lot of people make on this site, Can Identify

Jonsered over Echo!

No, I'd bet on Stihl.

I didn't know who Jonsered was until I found this place. Or Dolmar.

I agree. I know several people with chainsaws that proudly proclaim they own a stihl. They don't know what model it is, but by golly its a stihl! Oh, and it has a long bar on it too.

Dan

I was thinking McCullough.

clarification:
my 'homelite for non pros' meant non pro users and was to imply brands other than stihl and husqvarna.

althougth you may have something with mcculloch.

Oh please.

Jonsered was so awesome, so great, that their own design tanked, they had to get bought out by Husqvarna to stay afloat...jonsered = Husky. Jonsered = husky with different covered.

"TURBO = Air Injection"

Enjoy your Rebadged Husky's. At least ECHO is, and will always will be their own brand, theyt manufacture their parts, they assemble them, and proudly put their name on them.

And it isnt just the saws..It's the whole Godforsaken linup...Trimmers, brushcutters..etc..I had a customer bring me his POS J-red brushcutter, complaining how it was hard to start...I was telling him it was rare to see one of those trimmers in Red cladding. He looked confused to I pulled out a Husky Trimmer of a similar model and layed next to it, he was dumbfounded...He told me he hated Husky stuff.

People dont even realize what they have anymore...It's like Genius' that think Craftsman makes their own saws...

Careful now, handling that Husky trimmer could be harmful to your health. You might realize that it doesn't run on batteries and accidentally cut your foot off. :)
