Sad but true. I think I lost a lower ring on my 044/046BB. I was sawing against a graining on a dry white oak. The saw was 4 stroking through the cut but before I could do anything it locked up. Found pieces of ring in the muffler and it was all she wrote.

more pics. I don't think I ever went lean as you can see on the plug. Must been combination of too tight of clearance and alot of heat.

Got the tape off.. so I'll say it once more...

It must be such fun being a beta tester... Will Baileys replace the bottom end if it gets trashed? This is exactly why I can't put these on a customer saw, but I'm just beating my own dead horse, so ignore me;)

Yes... sorry for your problems though... PITA no matter what the outcome is. And I agree - your plug looks fine.

The bottom end thing did bother me alittle. I mean 044 bottom end will take abuse but metal shaving... I don't think so. First time, I got metal shavings in the crankcase from top end failure.

Metallurgy? Probable failure resulting from a bad batch of 1980's K-Cars they melted down....

Shut up Andy... :bang:

Ok, I'm finshed for now.

Hmmm I was looking for a big old Stihl to put a big bore kit on, and a little zippy Husky for the wife. I was thinking piston kit from Bailey's cheap fix.
The old saying you get what you paid for comes to mind!
Bailey's is a good company and do stand behind stuff they sell, would be great if they could get stuff made in the U.S even here up North That's the problem with all of North America. I really do think anything coming from China is junk and it takes away job's here. I have been to Europe often and you see much less made in China on things across the pond wonder why the Euro is worth so much?
Just eat at a restaurant and look at the plate and silver wear it ain't made in China!
Okay sorry for being off topic! But only a bit as those K cars came from Down east as they use lot's of salt on the roads!!!

So...OEM or aftermarket next time?

OK, OK!!!! I have been running mine for over a year now, no problems. No cir-clip problems, no ring failures, no meltdowns.
I am still happy with my BB kit, and happy with the way the saw runs.
Does that make me a bad person?

Don't know for sure yet. I really like how the BB kit came out. The compression was high and had more power than my OEM ported 044 but I can't afford to have to take it a part every week. I'm going to see what Bailey's can do for me first. May be using the OEM rings might be a good solution. I'll keep you guys updated.

The OME rings will be too small wont they? After all it is a bigger bore.
