MS 361 20" chain new put it on the day before. I hit a barbed wire Yesterday in the middle of a tree it took one of the cutters off it is completely gone run the chain or trash it or have it fixed? I just put the saw away and got another but thinking just run it, what do you think save it for stumps.

If it just took one and the chain is ok, I would run it as normal. I have gotten many miles out of chains missing a couple teeth.

All the logs we used to get came from housing developments and I used to hit barbed wire, steel fence post, logging chain, piece of half inch round stock, and the best one was an old school metel luch box that was inside the tree. If you only messed up one link I would save it for cutting stumps like you said. I just usally took it to the dealer and had them replace the links that were damaged except for the piece of round stock I hit with my 066 that broke off about 10 cutters and snaped the chain I just went ahead and trashed that one.

Buy a few links of chain and a $10.00 punch type chain breaker and replace the link. You may find a new hobby.:) One missing cutter won't have much effect, you could leave it be.

Wait a second you mean your MS361 did not pull the fencing staples and wind the barb wire into neat coils? I would take the whole saw back and ask for a REAL 361.

Picture

I'll take one tonight I left saw out in woods came back for lunch. Thanks guys so far I have sharpened it and ran it some today.

Isn't this the start of a homemade skip chain?

sorry about that

You do have to sharpen back till you get all the damage removed from the outside corners of that chisel chain but dont worry about part of the top plate trailing end being missing.

:agree2: A few cutters that are shorter than the others doesn't matter much, as long as the rakers are filed accordingly.

What happens when you strike metal? I thought is was very dangerous? I've heard of environmentalist putting nails is trees, I thought that could be lethal for the operator? You seem to imply it's no big deal.
