So I messed up guys, I was looking at 2 trucks, the one above, and an '86 dump. This is the truck i looked at today. '86 GMC, converted to 6.2 diesel, 4spd w/granny low. This truck was beat! huge hole in floorboard, no front driveshaft, needed new t-case, and a shadetree mechanic hack job to the electric system, and the engine. so no go on this one.
heres the truck i want

The 84 looks like a better rig to me.

I would stay away from the diesel & on either one find out what the rear end ratio is.
60mph if you are lucky.

Yeah the 86 is out. The 84's top gear is third, my dad had a similar truck, same trans, its top speed was prob 55? Low gears in diff and trans. We'll see. What did they come with
With a 4 speed manual a good ratio for highway use would be 3.73 for a 6.2. but you better expect a higher ratio in the 4x4s

My 87 has the Low-1-2-3 manual tranny and the gears in the rear end are 4:10, highway speeds of 65 are no problem whatsoever. The third gear I call
4th and it's ratio is 1:1 final drive. Great set-up for work and a low budget.
